So, do you wonder what we talk about in our transition meetings? Do you want to know what it is like? Well, this post will give you an insight into what the transition team does and talks about in our meetings. Believe me, the team sacrificed for this meeting. The weather on this day was 73 and sunny. You don’t get a better spring day than that. But instead of enjoying it, the team was at the church at 8:30 AM (OK… some of them arrived closer to 9:00) for a day of meetings. Ultimately, we went to almost 4:00 PM. What follows is a ‘blog’ or ‘tweet’ version of the meeting. I wrote the rest of this as the meeting was going on to give you a blow-by-blow rundown of what we talked about. The guests for this meeting were Joe Duval, Evan Nunley, and Dale Diggs. Joe, of course, is our district superintendant and was here to offer some insight about church planting and re-planting. Dale and Evan are experienced church planters/re-planters having a number of them under their belts. They were invited to review our efforts and provide their unique insight into what we are doing, sort of an extra set of (very experienced) eyes on our efforts to provide input and guidance. So, I hope you enjoy the insight! |

I thought that for my second blog post I would talk a bit about how we have structured the transition team and why we have chosen the people we have to participate on it. It became very obvious from the beginning that a transition of the magnitude we were proposing would take a lot of involvement from a number of people. There were already a number of people serving as staff, elected board members, or volunteer leadership. One of things that had to be done was to capture the knowledge and the insights that those people had in their positions. It was also obvious that those people were probably going to be holding very similar positions in the new ministry. |

I remember exactly where I was when Pastor Kevin explained to me the vision for North Church that God had given to him. I also remember exactly how I reacted when he told me that we would be ending the run of Columbus North Church and that we would be founding a new church, an Acts 1:8-based church, at the same site, in the same facility. My mind reeled. It was crazy... and yet it was exactly what we needed. North church had been on a set of tracks that was taking us to someplace we didn't want to be. We needed to lift the train off the tracks, turn it in the proper direction, and start making tracks for the goal that we should be pursuing. We are now well into the transition. As the communications director for the church and a member of the transition team it is my job to keep people informed about what we are doing, how we are going about it, and how far along we are. The blogs in this section will be posted in a regular basis to communicate the progress of the transition culminating in the launch of the new church. |
